serko.travel Case Study: One Rabbit

One Rabbit is a forward-thinking digital marketing agency that works with small, medium and large firms across Australia in the Professional Services sectors - primarily legal, accounting, engineering, and software development. Despite its national footprint, One Rabbit is still small and nimble at heart, employing 12 people and managing a lot of its administrative affairs in-house.

As with most small-medium enterprises, margins are tight, and the business is always looking for ways to improve efficiencies, particularly when thinking about significant expenses like business travel.

“I guess travel can sometimes be overlooked in terms of the time and cost invested by a business, especially a relatively small operation like ours, yet if you don’t get it right the first time, you can not only end up wasting money, but also precious staff hours,” said Carla O’Brien, Office Manager, One Rabbit.

“We didn’t necessarily realise it at the time, but we used to book all our travel through separate flight and accommodation supplier websites, which took a lot of time out of my day as the travel booker, and also made it difficult to coordinate the different flight itineraries, accommodation information and transfers into one place.”

To combat the problem, One Rabbit trialled Serko’s small business application serko.travel in an effort to consolidate their business travel into an easy-to-use portal that could be managed on a desktop through the Office Manager, while also being accessible on mobile while on-the-go.

Originally testing it with One Rabbit Director Jim Thompson in August 2016, the business has now rolled serko.travel out to three staff who travel on an ad-hoc basis.

“When we first signed up, we made 14 bookings in three weeks and it noticeably streamlined the way we booked our travel, as well as the travel experience itself,’ said Jim Thompson, Director, One Rabbit.

“From a traveller’s perspective, I found the user interface really intuitive on the mobile app and the reminders are also really useful. Most importantly though, it eliminated the need for five different travel booking apps on my phone!” he said.

The time spent booking travel also significantly reduced, according to O’Brien.

“It used to take at least an hour and a half to make one booking across several different supplier websites. Because it’s so easy to use, it now takes only half an hour, which gives me time to focus on more pressing day-to-day tasks. What’s more, serko.travel offers the same deals as the other suppliers, just all in one place!” she said.

Having now used the application for nearly four months, the business has seen a saving of approximately 10 per cent on travel costs, in addition to a significant reduction in administration time.
